Cube with Depressed Edges (BBU E9)
Made from my Building Block Units (BBU), modified E9 variant.
In contrast to most BBU variants which require 12 modules for making a cube, E9 can do with just 6. In the modification used here, faces are not folded to form exact squares but instead an additional surface is formed along the cube’s edges, matching the lines of the flowery pattern.
This technique should in theory also be possible when folding spiked icosahedra and other Sonobe-style structures but I haven’t tried it in practice yet. Partially folded models will probably be very unstable and fall apart easily, but I expect finished models to be rather robust.
