When I was little, it was common for kids to make paper chains as Christmas tree decoration (łańcuch na choinkę). These chains were made by cutting colored paper into narrow strips and gluing the ends together in order to form the links. In this origami model, each chain link is made by folding alone and no glue is used. Each link is a single Conveyor Belt Unit (CBU) connected by the ends in order to form a closed ring. While it takes much more work to create a chain without glue, designing this model was a fun exercise in origami. Linear assemblies of modular origami units seem to not be as popular as 3D models or even flat quilts, but I think they are an interesting genre and have collected a number of my own models of this type on my origami chains page.
