This is what happens when you execute an origami crumpling technique such as those mastered by Vincent Floderer but instead of thin and crisp paper, use thick watercolor paper and wet folding.

The nuclear mushroom cloud is modeled after Grable shot in the Upshot-Knothole series of atomic tests. The mushroom’s cap is not as tall as it should, but I managed to reproduce the glowing horizontal streak and some of the debris falling from the cap’s edges.

The paper was colored with tea infusion.
