Shuzo Fujimoto’s 102nd Birthday

On October 27th, 2024, we will be celebrating the 102nd anniversary of Shuzo Fujimoto’s birth. On this occasion, I’m presenting to you this picture, taken by Robert Lang in May 2006, showing Shuzo Fujimoto in front of his home in Sasayama, Japan. The other two people in the picture are (left to right) Seiji Nishikawa and Koichi Tateishi who were also among the group visiting Fujimoto that day.

My work on Fujimoto’s legacy has been slow recently: I haven’t even published yet the models that I managed to reverse-engineer with the help of the origami community at large, and the collection of models folded by his hand is crying for more research. I did give a workshop based on Fujimoto’s models at work, and taught his models at conventions. I’m showing some models of his design at the exhibition at the embassy of Japan in Warsaw.
