Paper Treatment for Folding Origami from an Old Calendar
I folded Star Ananke (D) from an angel-themed calendar.
With the start of 2020, the calendar for 2019 became obsolete, but I didn’t want to just throw it away. The paper was really hard to work with, and I had to use methylcellulose (MC) to stengthen it. Quite surprisingly, this failed because the paper stuck to the glass panel on which I was soaking it with MC. This resulted in the paper peeling into separate layers when I tried to detach it, completely destroying the sheet.
The approach which did work was to glue the calendar paper onto a sheet of sandwich wrap paper using MC. This combination held together well, came off the glass pane without any issues and was in the end good enough for folding a simple model like this.
